the scrapbook: 2 holiday drinks (to get the party started)

January Woman & HomeWe start the holiday season with my grandfather’s eggnog. He used to make it at home and bring it along in plastic milk jugs. (the recipe is below). There’s nothing like that first sip of eggnog to get you in the holiday spirit.

And I came across this recipe for bourbon apple cider with an herbal twist that looks like it could become another annual favorite.

I’m very thankful for my readers and wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!

Abbott Eggnog

fifth of whiskey (Rye)

8 eggs

½ lb. sugar

1 quart heavy cream

1 pint half & half

½ gallon eggnog ice cream (this is hard to find but vanilla works well as a substitute)

Beat eggs thoroughly, add sugar, then whiskey and cream. Then add ice cream and beat until smooth. Serve with a dash of nutmeg. Makes 5 quarts.
